About the Doctor


R. Sims Tompkins, D.M.D., M.S.

Dr. R. Sims Tompkins is a native of Columbia. He received his doctorate degree from the Medical University of South Carolina, College of Dental Medicine. Dr. Tompkins earned his master’s in orthodontics from Temple University, College of Dentistry. The American Board of Orthodontics certified him as a Diplomate in 1998.

Dr. Tompkins has been and continues to be active in a variety of organizations. He volunteers his time and service several times a year to the Children’s Dental Clinic of Lexington and Richland counties. He has served on the Dental Advisory Board of the Department of Allied Health at Midlands Technical College and has lectured to the dental residents of the Graduate Dental Program at Palmetto Richland Hospital. He is a member of the South Carolina Center for Cleft Palate and Craniofacial Disorders which offers children with congenital anomalies a multidisciplinary approach for diagnosis and treatment.

Dr. Tompkins is a member in good standing in several professional organizations and has served in various capacities with these groups. These include:

He is married to the former Elizabeth (Libby) Rush of Columbia and they have 3 sons, Sims, Jr., Rush and Griff. Dr. Tompkins is proud to be a native Columbian and gladly gives back to the community that has been so good to he and his family.
